Circa 1980 Mitch Ruda & Al Greynolds have an office in Tucson working for a former company.

In 1993 Mitch Ruda joined and participated in the Hubble Repair team
Ruda & Associates, Inc. was founded as a consulting firm by four principals of the company, Mitchell Ruda, Cathryn Dorman, Kenneth Castle and Tilman Stuhlinger. Together they have established a thriving and vibrant business in commercial, military, cinema, medical and industrial markets.
In 1998, Ruda & Associates started receiving frequent requests for building hardware
Cardinal Optics, Inc., a sister company, was established to meet the needs of customers seeking conversion of Ruda and Associates' engineering solutions into prototype and production hardware. Cardinal Optics complemented Ruda & Associates by offering production, prototyping and product testing of opto-mechanical systems.
2003 Al Greynolds joins Ruda & Associates and develops the next generation straylight and illumination design software GELOE
In February, 2009, the two companies merged to become Ruda-Cardinal, Inc., offering the same innovative and outstanding services, now with expanded capacities.
In 2010 Ruda-Cardinal participates as an industrial affiliate at the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona and supports the senior design and capstone projects for students.
August 31st, 2013 Mitch Ruda passed away and Ken Castle became the company president.
Ken Castle began teaching Ruda-Cardinals legendary optical alignment short course in early 2014.
November 2014, Ruda-Cardinal reaches their 20th year anniversary.
